Sustainability challenges for spices and other vegetable raw materials

Digital workshop series with the ZNU

08/2023

Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung and the Center for Sustainable Management (ZNU) at Witten/Herdecke University are launching a new series of events on sustainability along the global supply chains of spices and other plant-based raw materials. The digital workshop series brings together experts from science and practice to discuss sustainability challenges and identify solutions for companies.

Impetus for the spice industry

The sustainable production of food is one of the central challenges of our time. The six-part workshop series will take a detailed look at what needs to be considered when growing and purchasing plant-based raw materials such as spices and herbs. The topics of the workshops are based on planetary impact limits and deal, for example, with water and soil use, pollution and pesticide use. The series will take place from September 2023 to March 2024 and will focus on one topic each month. Current knowledge will be presented by international researchers, and best practice examples from companies will be highlighted. The goal of the interactive events is to jointly discuss challenges as well as innovative and proven approaches for more sustainable supply chains.
