While in Germany, the Day of the Dead is celebrated as a silent holiday at the end of November, there is a colorful celebration for the Mexican Day of the Dead on the second of November. The Adalbert Raps Spice Library also has a suitable book of the month for this occasion: "The Culture of Mexican Cuisine.

Although the 300 or so pages deal less with Mexican customs and rites, they do take a fundamental look at Mexican cuisine. The introduction provides a summary of the most important aspects. Among other things, central ingredients and their role are presented and basic recipes are provided, such as for the world-famous tortillas or for the corn drink atole.

This is followed by a wide collection of different recipes. The special feature of this book is that these are structured according to the different regions. So you learn at the beginning of each chapter also something about the culture of the respective area.

The book therefore offers a perfect basis for living the Mexican (food) culture in this country as well and takes those interested on a culinary journey right across this multifaceted country.
