Book of the Month February - Expressing Feelings with Culinary Arts
A culinary treat for the day of love: "Seduce á la carte" by Mimi Sheraton
Under the heading "Book of the Month", we present one of the approximately 12,000 books in the Adalbert Raps Spice Library every month. In 2022, the selection will be made to match the respective months, and everything from specialist books to old memorabilia to curiosities will be on offer - so it's worth taking a look!
Valentine's Day, which takes place in February, is regarded as a "day of love" like hardly any other holiday. This day became famous in Germany especially because of the US soldiers stationed in the country after the Second World War. The first Valentine's Day ball was held in Nuremberg in 1950, and the advertising of the confectionery and floristry industry, which was stepped up in advance, did the rest to make this day a fixed part of the year in this country as well - and it is not as modern as many people assume.
Our book of the month February "Seduce á la carte" offers a guidebook for offering a culinary love greeting to your loved one and is not even a cookbook. The 189 pages deal with all aspects of culinary seduction: Thus, the first chapter begins in very general terms with the art of seduction, Chapter III is devoted to the love feast and Chapter VII brings tips for breakfast in the countryside. The book is by no means stingy with charms...
Due to its age, however, the work should be read with caution - because the image of women and men in the 1960s has changed considerably today and accordingly much of this book should not be taken too seriously. Therefore, this book is only suitable to a limited extent as a guidebook for today - although Chapter XIV "In the Sign of Equality" also offers assistance to women in seducing strange husbands.
