No more applications possible: Scholarships for the Spice Sommelier/ière® 2024 qualification

Certified further training for the food and catering industry: Apply for the 2024 qualification round by March 3, 2024!


‍Futureparticipants in the Gewürz-Sommelier/-ière® qualification have reason to celebrate: this year, Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung is once again awarding two scholarships for the 2024 qualification round, each worth 3,500 euros. The seminar series will be organized from April 2024 by the Genussakademie Bayern. In addition to teaching basic knowledge about herbs and spices, the five-month training course will also focus on sensory analysis, communication, food pairing, health effects and quality assurance. Professionals who have completed their training and are working in the food industry (industry, trade, commerce, gastronomy) can apply for the scholarships. The scholarship covers both the seminar fees and the costs for accommodation during the individual training blocks.

Adalbert Raps scholarships: Foundation expands spice expertise

In the spirit of the Kulmbach entrepreneur and founder Adalbert Raps, who devoted himself passionately to the subject of spices in his time, the central concern of Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung today is to preserve knowledge about spices, support its further development and make it available to people. For this reason, the foundation is once again awarding two participation scholarships of 3,500 euros each for the Spice Sommelier/ière® qualification this year.

Whether you are a chef, restaurant specialist, butcher, baker, food or spice retailer, direct marketer or specialist from the food industry: the training to become a spice sommelier at the Genussakademie Bayern is aimed at all interested parties who have completed training in the food trade, commerce and industry as well as the catering trade. In short, it is aimed at all those who deal with spices in their everyday work. Those interested in the scholarship are asked to send their application documents, consisting of a current CV and a short letter of motivation, by email to, contact Sebastian Sommerer, by March 3, 2024.

Multifaceted spices: What awaits the budding sommeliers

During the 15-day qualification, which is divided into five blocks and extends over a period of five months, participants learn to distinguish between, practically use and combine different types of spices and spice blends. The training to become a spice sommelier covers the topics of sensory analysis, spice science, quality assurance, food pairing and food completing, garden and wild herb science, healing and health effects, communication with guests and a themed dinner. Upon passing both the oral and written final examination, participants receive the "Spice Sommelier" certificate.
