Media competence and appropriate media pedagogical support for children and young people are of utmost relevance

It is impossible to imagine everyday life for children and young people without media. In addition to numerous positive aspects, problems can also arise with digital media use. These include, for example, the misuse and overconsumption of digital media by children and young people as well as the danger of sexual assault in the new media. The challenge is to protect children and young people in the digital world. However, parents and/or carers are often overwhelmed when it comes to the correct use of digital media - a fact that is also revealed by the increased use of homeschooling. Media literacy is not only a fundamental prerequisite for the further education and life of children and young people, but also for social and societal participation. With the project "Media pro Kids", the Kinderschutzbund Kreisverband Bayreuth e.V. has therefore set itself the task of instructing children and young people as well as their parents and/or carers in digital media use. The counselling centre for media education and media competence offers individual and educational counselling by phone, video or on the premises of the Kinderschutzbund Kreisverband Bayreuth e.V. as well as workshops and parents' evenings at schools and other educational institutions. In addition, regular information events are held in cooperation with network partners, which can be supported by external experts. The contents include, among other things, the prevention of misuse of digital media, education for children and young people as well as their parents on the "correct" use of digital media and counselling in cases of cyber grooming, cyber bullying and cyber addiction. The counselling service has been available to children and young people and their parents and/or carers since autumn 2021. From 2022 onwards, there will also be workshops for institutions such as schools, day-care centres or other child and youth welfare institutions on the topic of media competence.

Not least due to the Corona pandemic, it became clear that the topic of media competence and appropriate media education support for children and young people is highly relevant and that there is an acute need for it. The Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung therefore supports the project "Media pro Kids" of the Kinderschutzbund Kreisverband Bayreuth e.V. by funding the project costs on a pro-rata basis over three years.

A postcard for you! - Diakonie Hochfranken gGmbH

For the evaluation of the quality of life, the cultural offer and the possibility to also participate in it is a decisive criterion. Knowing this, the Kulturloge Hof of Diakonie Hochfranken gGmbH supports people with low incomes in participating in cultural and social life. Donated tickets or free seats for events are arranged. Due to the ongoing pandemic situation, however, this is not possible at all or only to a very limited extent. The guests of the Kulturloge, whose lives generally do not take place much outside their own four walls due to financial, health or age-related restrictions, are particularly affected by the current circumstances, since in addition to the cultural offerings themselves, their social networks and offers of support are also dwindling. In order to maintain contact with those affected during the crisis and to give them a feeling of being seen, of appreciation and affection, as well as to prevent the danger of loneliness, Diakonie Hochfranke gGmbH launched the project "A postcard for you!" in autumn 2021. The idea is as effective as it is simple: in order to create new social contacts and to continue to enable social and societal participation, cultural guests of child and youth age of the Kulturloge Hof paint postcards or write letters that are sent to the adult cultural guests. In addition to the other organisation of the campaign, the full-time employee of the Kulturloge also takes care of supporting the pen-pal friendships that develop and maintaining them beyond the campaign.

The project "A postcard for you!" by Diakonie Hochfranken gGmbH illustrates that it is not necessarily the complex approaches that help to improve people's situations. The campaign was supported by Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung with funding for the material costs for the postcards.

Are you interested in the project? All information about the Kulturloge Hof is available on the website of the Diakonie Hochfranken. If you are interested in becoming a culture donor and donating tickets for cultural events to the Kulturloge Hof, please contact Franziska Kaiser, coordinator of the Kulturloge Hof, via e-mail or by phone at 09281 540 570 43.

Lacrima, Johanniter Unfallhilfe e.V.

Johanniter Unfallhilfe e.V. Regionalverband Oberfranken Lacrima Children's Bereavement Group

Families who have lost a close relative through sudden death, illness or suicide often lack services to help them cope with their grief. Although death is part of life, it is still a "taboo" subject in many places. It is not uncommon for those affected to encounter a lack of understanding due to ignorance, which makes the grieving process even more difficult. Since the mourning of children and adults differs, it is especially children and adults, respectively, with regard to dealing with the mourning process of their children, for whom appropriate offers are very helpful. This is because actively coping with grief is important in order to prevent long-term psychological and also physical illnesses. Johanniter Unfallhilfe e.V. is aware of this fact and, with its "Lacrima" project, is working to remove the taboos surrounding the topics of death, dying and mourning. The project includes a wide range of activities. For example, group sessions are held for children, young people and their relatives. During a 90-minute group session with discussions, rituals, stories, handicrafts and games, the children are accompanied in their grief. Adults have the opportunity to talk to each other and are supported by a grief counsellor in dealing with their own grief and the grief of their children. Counselling for grieving families and social education and networking are also part of the service. In addition, further training takes place for external institutions, such as day care centres, schools, etc., and the specialist staff there.

Particularly in view of the fact that mourning and coping with grief are topics that affect all people, but are often kept quiet and worked out with oneself, the "Lacrima" project is a highly relevant offer that is based on a convincing, impact-oriented overall concept with nationwide reference projects. The Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung has been supporting the project since 2018 with pro-rata funding of the project costs.
