Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung socially engaged!

The Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung provides information about its current commitment and gives an insight into selected funding projects.

05/2022

The primary goal of Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung is to promote social participation and make it accessible to all people regardless of their individual living conditions. The following overview shows current projects of selected funding partners and thus provides an insight into the current funding activities of Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung.

Current funding projects of the Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung

As part of its Upper Franconia-wide commitment to strengthening social participation, the following projects, among others, are currently being funded by Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung :

Leasing Hühner, Diakonisches Werk Bamberg-Forchheim e.V./Seniorenzentrum Hinrich Wichern Forchheim

  • Object of funding: Proportionate funding of project costs
  • Target group: Senior citizens of the Seniorenzentrum Johann Hinrich Wichern Forchheim as well as neighbouring day-care centres and citizens who become lessees.
  • Type of commitment: full-time commitment
  • Sphere of action: Forchheim

Beyond contact with immediate family members, it is often difficult for residents of a retirement home to maintain contact with the outside world. Especially if such contacts are not actively initiated. This is why senior citizens often have to struggle with social isolation and its consequences. With the project "Leasing Chickens", the Senior Citizens' Centre Johann Hinrich Wichern Forchheim of the Diakonisches Werk Bamberg-Forchheim e.V. wants to counteract this fact. The idea is as simple as it is effective and is based on the approach of opening the senior citizens' home to the outside world and promoting the encounter of different generations: For this purpose, a chicken coop with 40 "leased chickens" was built on the grounds of the senior citizens' centre. The chickens can be leased by people or organisations from the surroundings of the senior citizens' centre. For 60 € per year, the lessees receive five eggs per week. In addition, it is not only the beautifully designed garden that invites people to linger! The animals, which provide an incentive to awaken long-forgotten memories in the residents, serve as a form of therapy for dementia in the sense of biography work and provide the basis for exchange between residents and visitors. The senior citizens' centre is thus opened to outsiders of all ages and the residents of the senior citizens' centre benefit from conversations with the lessees. At the same time, the project helps to reduce fear of contact and prejudices against senior citizens' homes.

True to the motto "small idea, big effect", the "leasing chickens" of the senior citizens' centre Hinrich Wichern Forchheim have developed from an initially small idea into a remarkable project. Despite the simple approach and relatively low funding requirements, the project creates a high added value for the health of the target group of senior citizens. The Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung therefore supports the initiative by funding the project costs on a pro-rata basis, thus enabling the project to grow.

Are you interested in the project? Information and background information on the project can be found on the website of the Diakonie Bamberg-Forchheim. If you have any questions about the project or are interested in leasing, please contact Mr. Jochen Misof via e-mail.

Especially since the Corona pandemic, which was accompanied by lockdown and home schooling, children have been and continue to be exposed to a high level of psychological stress. In order to continue to master the challenges of everyday life, to develop a healthy self-confidence and to be able to perceive themselves as self-effective, it is particularly important in this context to support children as they grow up. They should experience themselves as an important part of society and gain as many positive experiences as possible. This is exactly where the Don Bosco Jugendwerk comes in with the "Circus Giovanni" project. Within the framework of a circus week, children are given the opportunity to learn about their strengths. The project not only contributes to stabilising and promoting the mental health of the participants and serves as a prevention of dangers, but also helps to make the relationship structure in the class visible and to work on it positively. The aim is to positively link school as a place of learning and the relationship with classmates and teachers. Another aspect is that active participation in the circus week helps children to strengthen their social competence as well as their personal competence. It promotes the willingness to support each other, problem-solving skills, cooperation, tolerance and consideration for others, and at the same time increases self-esteem, perseverance, stamina and the recognition of limits.

The effects and possibilities of circus education are inspiring! The project "Circus Giovanni" of the Don Bosco Youth Office shows that circus art is much more than a means to an end and can be understood as a door opener for the actual educational work. The Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung supports the project with a share of the project costs.

Are you interested in the project? Information and background information on the project can be found on the Circus Giovanni website. If you have any further questions about the project or are even interested in a circus week, you are cordially invited to contact Mr Volker Traumann via e-mail. If you would like to read a little more about the circus weeks and see some pictures, you can find detailed reports on the websites of the Don Bosco School Stappenbach or the Wunderburg School Bamberg.

In order to master the challenges of everyday life, both young families and senior citizens as well as migrants are dependent on mutual exchange and support services. Appropriate meeting spaces are therefore indispensable. The "Family Meeting" of the Geschwister-Gummi-Stiftung is based precisely on this idea. For decades, the project has been regarded as the institution for families in the Kulmbach district. The multi-generation house offers services for three target groups: Families and children, senior citizens and migrants. These include, for example, the breastfeeding café, the open meeting in the family café, the second-hand shop KuKATZ, the senior citizens' workshop or various integration projects. The target groups are integrated into a social network and social togetherness in the neighbourhood and society is strengthened. While young families and migrants learn how to cope with challenges such as parenting issues or questions about German culture through participation in the services, senior citizens experience themselves again as a valuable part of society and social isolation and the resulting mental illnesses are prevented.

The initiative "Familientreff" of the Geschwister-Gummi-Stiftung is an established offer that even some team members of Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung remember from their childhood. Over the years, the multigenerational house has succeeded in initiating and developing new offers that meet the needs. The Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung therefore supports the project with a share of the project costs.

Are you interested in the project? Information and background information on the project can be found on the website of the Geschwister-Gummi-Stiftung.
