Current funding projects of the Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung
As part of its Upper Franconia-wide commitment to strengthening social participation, the following projects, among others, are currently being funded by Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung :
MENTOR Learning to Read Helpers, Kulmbach District/Coordination Centre for Civic Involvement
- Object of support: Mentor suitcase with books and games
- Target group: primary and secondary schools
- Type of commitment: full-time supervision by Heike Söllner, Coordination Officer for Civic Engagement, and volunteer reading mentors
- Sphere of action: Kulmbach

An ever-increasing number of pupils are struggling with reading difficulties or a lack of reading skills. This is a big problem, considering that reading competence is the key to good educational opportunities and thus ultimately also to later life chances. With the MENTOR project, the Kulmbach district's coordination centre for civic engagement wants to counteract this negative trend. The idea: according to the 1:1 principle, a reading mentor works together with a reading child for one hour a week (face-to-face meetings are currently held online). During this time, depending on the child's individual abilities, age-appropriate texts are read together and then discussed. In a relaxed learning atmosphere without pressure to perform, not only is the child's reading competence improved and the foundation laid for a positive educational path, but self-esteem is also increased.
It is a project based on a simple concept with high effectiveness. It was founded in Hanover in 2003 and since then more local MENTOR initiatives have been emerging across the country. The project was supported by the Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung with mentor cases containing books and games for reading lessons.
Your commitment is in demand: the project continuously trains new volunteer reading mentors. You can find more information and the link to register here.
Inclusive housing project for young people with disabilities, Neues Wohnen Coburg e.V.
- Object of funding: Furnishing of the residential group to meet the needs of the disabled
- Target group: young people with multiple/severe disabilities
- Type of commitment: volunteer-run association founded out of a parents' initiative
- Sphere of activity: City of Coburg location, interested parties from other regions are very welcome

The reason for the creation of the inclusive housing project for young people with disabilities of Neues Wohnen Coburg e.V. is the still existing lack of housing offers for people with multiple disabilities. To counteract this, the association has been planning outpatient assisted living for people with disabilities since 2015. By the end of 2021, 24 individual flats with their own bathroom and kitchenette will be built in a barrier-free design, as well as spacious communal areas and a large garden. The care and support needs of the residents - young people with multiple/severe disabilities - will be ensured by an outpatient service after completion of the building project. In addition, active, inclusive leisure activities are planned for the residents. The project, which was founded by a parents' initiative, aims to strengthen the residents' independence and everyday skills by supporting them in their community life, to enable them to participate in social and public life and thus not only to improve their living situation, but also to relieve their relatives.
It is a project with a lighthouse character for alternative inclusive forms of living, which is based on a high level of voluntary commitment of the parents with particular perseverance. Within the framework of its funding activities, Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung supports the equipment of the residential groups for the disabled.

Exit the Verschwörung, Landesverband Escape Room und Bildung Bayern e.V.
- Object of funding: Design and construction of an Escape Room
- Target group: Adolescents and young adults aged 15 to 27 years
- Type of commitment: full-time supervision and voluntary implementation (young people build the room themselves)
- Sphere of action: Upper Franconia-wide, even supra-regional (the Escape Room can be rented by educational institutions).

Conspiracy theories and fake news are spreading faster and more frequently via social media. The problem: Anti-democratic organisations and movements use the spread of conspiracy theories and fake news for their own purposes and acquire new "followers" through them. Anti-democratic attitudes are strengthened. The Exit the Conspiracy project of the Landesverband Escape Room und Bildung Bayern e.V. (Bavarian Escape Room and Education Association) has therefore set itself the goal of focusing on the topic of "conspiracy myths", making youths and young adults aware of their dangers in a playful way and thus strengthening democracy. The Escape Room is built by four teams of developers from the target group itself. Since it is mobile and can be borrowed by educational institutions, the offer is not tied to a fixed location after the planned completion of the Escape Room in August 2021.
In the spirit of "learning can and should be fun", the project manages to convey an educational topic that is often unattractive for the target group in an appealing format. Thanks to the mobile Escape Room, the offer can be used in a wide area. It is also characterised by sustainability and scalability. The Adalbert-Raps-Stiftung supports the project in planning and building the Escape Room.
